This small (5.75" x 4") is the constitution and by-laws for the association. It also includes a roll of members. Article I. states: "This association shall be called and known as the San Juan Pioneers; association. It is designed to be a moral, benevolent and literary association, and its objects are: to cultivate social relations, form a more perfect union among its members, to collect and preserve information connected with the early settlement and subsequent history of the San Juan country, and to perpetuate the memory of those whose sagacity, energy, and enterprise induced them to settle in the wilderness and develop the resources of Southwest Colorado."
