Independent Line! Red, gold and white seal in the middle. Signed by Loomis Taylor. We could find little information on this independent line of steamers other that it ran from Boston to Bangor, Maine. In 1852 Sanford and Taylor made news when they faced charges for illegally transporting liquor. "THE STEAMER BOSTON AFFAIR. In the case of State vs. Capt T.B. Sanford, Loomis Taylor (Agent) and Mr. McMally (sic) for conspiracy to resist Officer Staples in an attempt to seize liquors from the Steamer Boston, at Frankfort, tried before the District Court lately held in Belfast, Capt. Sanford was acquitted, and Taylor and McNally convicted. They gave bail and appealed to the Supreme Court." During the Civil War Sanford and Taylor provided services transporting troops and munitions to Boston free of charge. Date: Location: Massachusetts HWAC# 53557
