Inc. in Arizona. No. 116, issued for 100 shares in 1903 to EW Storer. Signed by secretary LC Comer and president Gail Borden. Not cancelled. Black border and print. Eagle vignette in silver, plus silver corp. seal. Deep folds with some separation, toning. 8 x 10" This was near an important tin locale at Temescal in Orange County, California. Gail Borden III of the Borden Milk Company was a New York dairy magnate. When the U.S. Health Agency required all milk containers to be covered and sterilized, wooden buckets, which were commonly used to transport milk suddenly became unlawful. Borden wanted to use the tin to replace wooden buckets. LC Comer filed 54 claims. The same eagle that appeared on cans of Borden's Milk was used as the mining company's logo. About one half mile below the mine there was a cluster of miner's cabins, known as Surprise City, but they all washed away in the flood of 1916. The mine was a bust and Borden lost millions.
