Cert. #52, issued in 1901 to L.M. Hardison for 468 shares. Signed by F.M. Edgar as president and R.H. Irvin as secretary. The company held a valuable group of mines, north of Borax Lake, in the Argus Mountain range, 26 mi. northeast of Randsburg, in Inyo County. The Santa Paula group consisted of the Comet, Starr, Santa Paula, and three others, all in the same locality. In 1898, a large quantity of ore was on the dump, with assays between $38.50 and $126 per ton. The ore was stained with copper and also contained some silver. The Santa Paula was on a steep hill side, about a mile distant, and showed a large body of ore. In 1898, the company was just starting to develop the Santa Paula mine and also intended to develop the Kilmer claim, about 3 miles away. An assay of the Kilmer had shown $67.18 in gold and $1.50 in silver per ton (Mining & Metallurgical Journal, October 1, 1897, pp. 9-10). Five documentary revenue stamps at right. Fold lines. Uncancelled.
