Cert. #353, issued to Mrs. E. Clare Gardner. Signed by H.C. Brougher as president and B.F. Edwards as secretary. The Santa Rosa lead-silver mine was discovered in 1910. It was located east of Cerro Gordo and 26 miles from Keeler, where the mine office was. Production through 1920, $500,000 of silver, lead and copper ore (Mines Handbook, 1924). There were two systems of veins with average width of 4'. The fine outcrops would indicate a high degree of mineralization, but the orebodies and rich ore was in all cases found close to the surface. The mine re-opened in 1916 and was operated in a small way in 1920 by the company and lessees (M.H.). The company was still operating in 1931 according to the Mines Handbook. Nice signature from H.C. Brougher. Among other things, Brougher was the 1st owner of the Wieland Brewery in Tonopah in 1901. In 1916, he was one of the chief owners of the Gold Mountain vein. Brougher decided to prospect the vein by sinking the shaft lower on the flank of the mountain. By the spring of 1919, a large and valuable silver lode was discovered. This set off the great Divide disctrict boom. Brougher's discovery was named the Tonopah Divide Mine (Knopf, The Divide Silver Disctrict, Nevada), 5 miles south of Tonopah. In 1901, Edwards was a merchant in Candelaria and producing borax at Columbus Marsh, under lease from Borax Smith. On his first day in Tonopah, he bought a half interest in the Mizpah lease and the West End claim. In 1906, the West End Consolidated Mining Company was formed with Borax Smith as president and Zabriskie and Edwards involved. The West End Consolidated was a majority owner of this company. A rare certificate. VG + condition. Uncancelled. City: Keeler State: California Date: HWAC# 51233
