RARER date, company and district! Early certificate! # 19 for 50 shares to A. Dubois. Dubois would perish with most of the passengers in September of 1864 in the Washoe Paddle Wheeler explosion while travelling from Sacramento to San Francisco. Signed by W. E. Hale secretary and W. K. Smith president. Dateline Virginia City, January 17, 1863. Organized December 10, 1862. 1200 shares / 1200 feet! Secured by Deed of Trust (We haven't seen this before!) Location: Vulcan Ledge. Beehive vignette. Towne & Bacon printer. Not cancelled. Edge nick and light staining left border. Hand written over the 'Virginia Mining District' is 'Argentine Mining District.' In January of 1864 the Gold Hill Daily News reported on this district. It attracted a good deal of interest in 1859. A number of ledges were located and some work was done. But soon afterwards but a single claim remained that was being worked. (Historical notes on the steamer explosion and Argentine district included.)
