Three French assignat notes: 1) one hundred livres dated 19 June, 1791; 8 x 4 inches; tattered edges, fold, some staining; 2) one hundred francs, unissued, 5 x 4 inches; 3) five livres, unissued, 4 x 2 1/2 inches. Assignats were fiat currency authorized by the Constituent Assembly in France from 1789 to 1796, during the French Revolution, to address imminent bankruptcy.
