Lot of 4 different. Includes: 1877 to Joint Shaft Chollar Norcross Savage Co., signed by Gillette, RN-G; 1876 to WB Hopkins, signed by Osbiston, RN-F; 1880 to Pay Roll, signed by Kelley, RN-G; and 1870s to Samuel Reed, signed by Gillette, RN-G. The Savage Mine was staked in 1859 by AO and Leonard C. Savage. It was located on middle part of the Comstock Lode between the Hale & Norcross and Gould & Curry mines. The North Potosi and Birdsall Company's claims were annexed by the Savage as the result of a lawsuit. The Savage Mine was a great early producer during the late 1860s. In 1869, it was producing 50-80 tons daily yielding $35-70 per ton. James G. Fair was supt. in the 1870s but resigned. John P. Jones and Alvinza Hayward gained control of the mine in 1871. In the mid 1870s, the Savage joined forces with the Chollar-Potosi and Hale & Norcross to sink the Combination Shaft, which eventually reached a depth of over 3,000 ft. in the 1880s. [Ref: Ansari]
