1) This is the lower portion of a leather scabbard made for the Model 1840 Musician’s sword. It also still retains the brass drag, found at the very bottom of the scabbard. 2) Obviously this is a 19th century item, but we have poured through every 19th century reference that we have, and we can only surmise that this is a scabbard designed to hold a blade or tool of some sort.
