Lot of 2 small books that belonged to Jeannette Brummer 1887-1889 during her schooling in New Orleans. First Album is a 3" x 5.25" needle book with dark red cover, stamped with hand-painted decorative pattern. Inside front cover printed label reads "Blood's Genuine Needles Patent Wrapper Manufactory, Redditch, Eng." with 4 perforated paper pockets for different gage needles labeled "Sharps". Inside back cover is labelled "Blood's Combined Album & Need Case. Patent Applied For." 50 pgs.: fancy calligraphy writing with leafy vine art that reads "Henrietta Brummer." 2/3 filled w/sentimentalities, poems and personal messages from classmates, friends, family members; most addressed to "Nettie" but a few to "Jeanette". Probably belonged to an older family member named Henrietta and gifted to Jeanette. Second album 5" x 7.5" w/ cushioned red fabric cover w/golden brown embossed split picture of a dog / river scene framed with flowers. 1st page fancy printed color artwork of sailboats in a harbor labelled "Album". Approx. 35 inside pages, most with written content dated 1889/90. Blk & what photo of entryway to a trailer-type home loose inside. _x000D_
Autographs include: George Spitzfaden, Theodore Spitzfaden, Mamie Israel, Elizabeth Dufrechou, Katherine Aichlen, Felice Logan, Camille Hayem, Florine Brun, Annie Kramer, Mamie Ameling, Chas Kuhl, Agnes E. Berkson, Mat Plunkett, Bella J. Lighthouse, Joseph Barthe, and others. Jeanette Brummer was found in 1894 N.O. Marriage Records. In October 1994 she married Frank A. Wilkie (misspelled in one source Willie). Jeanette and Frank had one child, also named Frank Albert Wilke. Another lot in this sale includes a letter to Al Wilke in New Orleans in 1961 with an invitation and program from the John F. Kennedy Inauguration. Condition of books is fair, as expected for age and use. See photographs.
