Selby Smelthing & Lead Company documents including: 1) 11x Bullion receipts of Silver Bars, all for this company dated between 1895-1904, with 3x Anglo-Californian Bank receipts, 1x Selby Company receipt #8130. 2) Unissued Stock Certificate no. 668, dated 18--, SF. 3) Memorandum to Pacific Milling Co. Virginia on Oct 27, 1876, signed by H.B.Muderhill, Jr.(?). Selby Smelthing & Refining Company (1852-1976) was started by Thomas Selby, who came to the gold rush in San Franscisco in 1849, which was the first smelting operation for metal other than gold and silver on the west coast. HIs company enlarged their facility to 40 furnaces and he quickly became the largest metal smelter in America. During his life, the company had at least 6 different subsidiaries.
