Founded in 1884, the Anthony Prize Medal was an essay award established in honor of the late Senator Henry B. Anthony of Rhode Island. Given annually to one male and one female student in Providence, the medal was one of the school's most prestigious honors for many years. Henry Bowen Anthony (1815-1884) was a prominent figure in Rhode Island and national politics, and a former editor of the Providence Journal. He served as a Republican Senator from Rhode Island from 1859 until his death in 1884.
