An autograph cut signed "T. W. Ferry Michigan May 1875" (Thomas White Ferry - 1827-1896), who was a U.S. Representative, Senator and acting vice president of the U.S. Senate. The autograph is on an approximate 3.5" x 2" thick paper that has remnants of black paper on back from being pasted in a scrapbook. It comes with a short biography. Ferry was a U.S. Representative from March 4, 1865 - March 3, 1871, U.S. Senator from March 4, 1871 - March 3, 1883, and acting Vice President of the United States from Michigan (President pro tempore of the United States Senate) from March 9, 1875 - March 17, 1879. He was one of four United States senators from Michigan to have served as president pro tempore of the U.S. Senate, and the only U.S. senator from Michigan to hold the position for multiple Congresses (44th and 45th).
