Four are identified by the experienced desert collector. 1) Johntown double pick. 19". Johntown was the first city on the Comstock - before Virginia City. It is where the 50 or so prospectors would stay. It is slightly below present day Virginia City. When silver was discovered the population moved to Virginia City, Gold Hill, and Silver City and.Johntown was quickly abandoned. 2) A second Johntown pickaxe. 12.5". Pick and hammer design. 3) A 14.5" pick and chisel design found at the Quincy fairgrounds. 4) A 15.5" pick and hammer design. Found at American Canyon.
