Stock Number 1635 for 5000 shares to J.H. Jennine. Vignette of a large gold nugget, the mine works, and a gold dredge, 1906. Great example of vignette art and history all in one. The center vignette is of Alaska's largest nugget at the time, 182 ounces. Gold was discovered inadvertently on the Seward peninsula in 1855 while scouting a route for a telegraph. Nothing became of the discovery, which was probably not believed, until 1897 when the Klondike rush was "on." Nome placers were discovered in 1898, and from there, mining has been continuous with over 6 million ounces of gold coming from Seward. Only about 10,000 ounces came from lode deposits.
