This Sharps 3-band musket is a .52 caliber percussion model 1863. It has a Hartford, Conn. address S/N 6173x . The barrel is 30 in. and has an electric blue colored lever action that appears to be all original. Some handling wear patterns, in excellent condition with grey patination and some original case hardened bluing remaining. The butt-plate is stamped US. This gun does not fit the usual serial number range for US military contract guns because it is a 3-band sporting rifle. Sharps made sporting rifles if the rifles originally intended to fill Government contracts failed to meet those specifications. There are no specific serial ranges for these guns but it is thought that only 16 of such guns exist (Sellers p.85). This is your opportunity to own a truly rare and original firearm of the civil war era.
This gun is an antique and no attempt has been made to fire this gun to confirm its mechanical integrity. Nor should this gun be fired without the examination by a qualified gunsmith. Any attempt to fire an antique gun is at the risk of the owner and not consistent with the value of the firearm.
