Shattuckite is a relatively rare copper silicate hydroxide mineral. It crystallizes in the orthorhombic dipyramidal crystal system and usually occurs in a granular massive form, but, also as fibrous acicular crystals. Shattuckite was first discovered in 1915 at the copper mines of Bisbee, Arizona, specifically the Shattuck Mine (hence the name). It is a secondary mineral that forms from the alteration of other secondary minerals. The attractive light blue-green color of shattuckite has made it a favorite species of mineral collectors. This specimen features shattuckite on and included within colorless quartz crystals. This specimen was mined during the past five years from a remote copper deposit in the harsh desert of the Kaokoveld Plateau. Dimensions (cm): 11 H x 6.8 W x 3 D.
