The Sheriff Gold Mining Co Stock Certificate Number 17, issued to "The Treasury of the Sheriff Gold Mining Co." for "Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand" shares issued January 21, 1896, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Since the certificate says there is a capital stock of $1,250,000, and each share is $1.00 each, this certificate would seem to represent one-fifth of the total capital of the company. However, in two places it is stamped in blue-green ink "Capital Stock Reduced to $125,000." It is signed by M. (Mortimer?) Parsons as secretary, with no signature by the president. Condition is very good with some old staple perforations in the upper left, two barely perceptible vertical fold creases, and virtually no damage to the edges or corners. The left edge bears the remains of the perforations along that side. There are a few small ink spots on the reverse.
