Lot of approx. 1100. 5 b&w folders, 4 each containing 250 stock certificates from the Sherman Lead Company, ID (controlled by Day family). Folders contain the following: certs #751 - 1000 dated Mar 7, 1936, to Mar 20, 1936; certs #1247 - 1496 dated Feb 9, 1928 - May 31, 1928; certs 4251 - 4500 dated Oct 3, 1941 - Jan 17, 1942; certs 4751 - 5000 dated Sept 4, 1942 - Mar 23, 1943; and certs #7001 - 7101 dated Aug 27, 1947. All certs stamped Cancelled. All certs signed by company Secretary and President including Jerome J. Day (Pres from 1922 - 1941) & Henry L. Day). Certificate sizes 10.75" x 8.50"and attached to receipt stubs. Color: brown border w/brown embossed seal at lower left corner and Esto Perpetua state seal image in top center. Condition: Mild foxing, minor edge tearing on a few certs but otherwise in good condition. Back cover of folder w/cert #s 4251 - 4500 torn off of spine while upper right corner of front cover torn off. Note: Sherman Lead Company was created from the reorganization of the Sherman Development Company in 1918 w/Eugene R. Day the majority stockholder. SLCo thus became a subsidiary of Tamarack & Custer Consolidated Mining Co for which Day had controlling interest. Lead production was spotty throughout the '20s and '30s; however, the war effort provided consistent income through 1947 when SLCo was consolidated with other Day interests to form Day Mines, Inc..
