Two very large lithographs of life saving events from a ship disaster. July 8, 1871 by Thos Brooks, Portland Strreet, London, about 21 x 37", edge chips, content generally fine. First litho is of a rescue boat leaving shore in a hurricane, with townspeopleon the beach, looking out at the periled ship. The second of the same size is a lifeboat carrying rescued people back to the harbor. On the front of the lifebaot is "National Lifeboat Institution, Volunteer Contributions, corner chips.
The National Lifeboat Institution is a UK maritime charitable organization formed for, and to educate the public about, saving lives at sea. It was founded in 1824, serving the UK/Ireland region, very much still active today, haveing saved in excerss of 140,000 lives since its inception. It also has educational lectures about the dangers of the ocean and saving lives.
