These three lots are all pieces of door off the SS Central America. We can't tell if it was an interior or exterior door. This group well illustrates an 1857 door onboard an ocean steamer. 1) Wood Door Latch Frame. Section of wood door frame which housed the metal strike plate for a door lock. Strike plate not present. 6x1.75x5/8". 5 drilled holes 5/8" apart. 2 drilled holes for strike plate attachment. The shape and green patina sort of looks like Gumby! 2) Door Knob and Lock. Round possibly solid brass door knob with missing round stem. Tapered toward stem area. About 1.25x2.5". Brass door lock mechanism, no maker visible, 5x3.5x75", plus detached section of wood door frame, 12x3.75". 4 partial attachment screws present. 3) Solid Brass Doorknob Socket. This solid brass circular object is the socket for crystal glass that would complete a doorknob. Found at a passenger's room. About 2 in. in diameter.

Provenance: SS Central America Collection
