A gimbal is a pivoted support that permits rotation of an object about an axis. A set of three gimbals, one mounted on the other with orthogonal pivot axes, may be used to allow an object mounted on the innermost gimbal to remain independent of the rotation of its support. For example, on a ship, the gyroscopes, shipboard compasses, stoves, and even drink holders typically use gimbals to keep them upright with respect to the horizon despite the ship's pitching and rolling. Here we have 5 parts of the ship's gimbal. Broken screw or bolt with small amount of thread, 5/16" long. Metal ring with 2 ears, each with a 3/8 round hole, 2 indented lines around circumference 1/8 " from edges, 2x 3/8" round holes on ring, .75" and 1.5" pieces not present, light degradation. Metal bullet shape topper with flat round base, 3 partial rivets in base, 2.25x2", 5/16" chip on base, light degradation. 3 piece 10" screwed together base bracket, center 2.25" circular section, 4 bottom screws, 2 center top screws, 2x 4.5" uprights-1 with .5" pin, 1 pin missing, degradation mainly on base. Round metal 7 5/8" ring with 2 bolts and unusual tapered nuts on inside, 2x .25" side holes, small center line on circumference, some degradation.
