VIgnette of prospectors high in the mountains. Lith. Britton & Company. On July 4th the Reese River Reveille reported that 100 pounds of rock assayed at $845.20 a ton. On July 31 they reported that the Shoshone Silver MIning Company was commencing a tunnel 500 feet to intersect the Great Eastern, Princeton and Austin No. 2 mines at a depth of 200 feet. These mines all belong to the Shoshone Silver Mining Company. They identify the location of this tunnel as a short distance above Upper Austin. (commonly called Clifford). In November it was reported two mills were in process of erection. The General Land Office 1866 map showed Simpson’s Park district to cover a large area in the central Toiyabe Range, extending from Austin east to the area of Dry Creek. In other words, Reese River!
