Very rare. No. 61, issued for 40 shares to president Low in New York in 1866. Signed by Low and Payson. Not cancelled. Black border and print, allegorical vignette. 25 cent revenue stamp attached at left and on the reverse. Folds. 6.25 x 10" Research shows that this company operated in Mono County. The report from the 1869 Paris Exposition state "The Sierra Blanca sent an ingot of silver weighing 216 ounces, the product of the Elmira mines of the Sierra Blanca Silver Mining Company, California, being the proceeds of 500 pounds of ore." In 2019 we sold a letter from this company and wrote: "Three-page letter from President Low on Sierra Blanca Silver Mining Company of California letterhead. The letter was written to provide a status on the mine to its shareholders. "2875 feet of quartz ledge." "Depth of 140 feet." Quartz mill in "fine running order, etc. The only reference we found to this company was in the San Francisco Examiner on October 21, 1865. In a long article on Mono County, it is mentioned. Mr. Low and New York capitalist were very choosy in selecting this site to invest in. The area has ample water and power resources. W. H. Dalyrymple of San Francisco is the superintendent. Boarding houses for the workers, stables and ore houses are currently being built. The mill will wait until spring of 1866. First class ore from this site will yield $700 to $1000 a ton and be shipped to England. They have also purchased 600 acres of the Hot Spring Valley - the entire valley! No gambling or whiskey establishment will be tolerated on their property. One hotel has been granted license - that to Mr. Bick of Aurora. The hype was certainly there, but since we found no additional information, we assume the ore wasn't."
