Lot of 196 checks! Three different style checks for Asher A. Getchell, Drugs, Medicines and Sundries, Silver City, Idaho. 177 from Overland National Bank, 1915-1917; 5 from Idaho Trust and Savings Bank (Boise), 1915; and 14 blue Idaho Trust and Savings Bank (1911). Signed by Getchell. Punch cancelled. According to an Illustrated History of the State of Idaho (1899). Asher A. Getchell was also assistant postmaster, and his brother, Meserve, was postmaster. The two were very well-liked, with "a large circle of friends and are among the most useful and progressive citizens of Silver City." The Getchell family emigrated from Wales to NEw Brunswick. His great grandfather, Joseph Getchell, fought in the Revolutionary War under Capt. Jeremiah O'Brien and assisted in the capture of the British schooner Margaretta.
