Three vintage newspapers with journalism about silver dollars: 1) Washington Sentinel; February 9, 1878: "History of Our Daddy Dollar" The article is just column one, but the whole four page broadside newspaper section is included, in excellent condition. 2) Puck; January 28, 1891: "Pulling Together," cover page cartoon of the donkey Congress pulling the Silver Ring's surplus production of silver to the U. S. Mint: the only place in the world where you can get a dollar for seventy cents worth of Silver. (The Sherman Silver Purchase Act of 1890 required the government to buy millions of ounce of silver above what was required by the 1878 Bland-Allison Act, driving up the price of silver and pleasing silver miners.) 3) Saturday Globe (Utica, NY); November 7, 1896: "His Dollar Was Big Enough But Short in Value." Seven column wide above the fold color cartoon depicting Uncle Sam's circus over William Jennings Bryan's campaign for free silver. Ragged edges, tears along the center fold.
