The El Mochito is an underground, silver-zinc mine in the northwest section of Honduras in Central America. Discovered in 1938, production began in 1948 under the Rosario Mining Company. These two small, silver ingots, are each approx. 2.4 x 0.4 x 0.6 inches. One weighs about 80 grams (~2.5 tr oz), the second weighs about 60 grams (just under 2 tr oz). The lighter ingot is engraved EL MOCHITO, and the other is stamped N.Y. & H. ROSARIO / MINING CO. for New York & Honduras. Included in this lot is an acrylic embedment with a small silver shovel
and an ore specimen with that company's logo. The three square brass tags are 1.5-inches square and is stamped with MOCHITO / MINE. After changing hands multiple times, the El Mochito Mine is currently owned by Ascendant Resources.
Both ingots were analyzed at American Assay with two sample sites. The El Mochito silver ingot sites averaged 937.54 fine silver, 001.24 fine gold, 033.71 fine copper. The Rosario ingot avreraged 954.22 fine silver, 001.36 fine gold, and 005.83 fine copper. These silver ingots were collected by Mayrsohn over the course of his career.
