California Mining District, Leadville, Lake County, Colorado. No. 166, issued for 500 shares to James L. Greib on Sept. 19th, 1881 in Leadville. Signed by president George Magee and secretary W.J. Radcliffe. Underground mining vignette. Not cancelled. Extra fine. 9 x12" The California Mining District was named for California Gulch. In 1860, prospector Abe Lee found gold nuggets in his pan in the gulch and declared "I've got California in the pan" naming the area in the process. General George Magee along with W.H.
