This lot has two pieces of silver splash, that is, molten silver that sloshed out of the furnace crucible and landed on the floor of the mine's refinery instead of getting poured into ingot molds with the rest of the batch. The note on the piece calls it "El Mochito Loot" and indicates it was smelted from high-grade ore that came from above the #5 shaft of the El Mochito Mine. The larger piece is approx. 3.25 x 2 x 0.375 inches and weighs about 152.9 grams. The smaller is about 1.5 x 0.75 x 0.5 inches and weighs 6.2 grams. Total weight is 5.11 troy ounces. The El Mochito is an underground, silver-zinc mine in the northwest section of Honduras in Central America presently owned and operated by Ascendant Resources. Discovered in 1938, production began in 1948 under the Rosario Mining Company.
