Only example known. "Storey County, State of Nevada" (printed under title). Inc. March 1865. Stock number 1, issued for 998 of the 1,000 company shares to company secretary B(ertrand) Cordes in Virginia City in March 1865. Signed by Cordes and president Wm. Krouse (a grocer in VC). Pen cancelled. Transferred on the back to Charles Fox. 25 cent US IR stamp on reverse. This company was tough to research. In the territorial years, two water companies sourced water from the mines and springs. They consolidated into the Virginia & Gold Hill Water Company (who dammed Marlette Lake and drew water from there starting in the 1870s). We found one reference to the Silver Spring Water Company in the April 14th, 1865, Daily Territorial Enterprise. They mention that the company has petitioned to lay pipes under the streets of Virginia City, and that Street Commissioner Parker is favorable of the proposition. 5.5 x 9.75"
