Bond no. 39. $500. Issued in 1899. Signed by president John D. Chipman and treasurer Henry M. Soule. Not cancelled. Green border, dark purple print. Locomotive vignette. 17 coupons attached. 16 x 12" Excellent condition. Chartered in 1899 by the Gold King Mining Co. to haul ore from the mines on Cement Creek to the Silverton smelters. Otto Mears and his associates had been unable to secure money to build a branch of the Silverton Northern Railroad to the mining area around the town of Gladstone. The line ran from the mainline of the Silverton Northern on the north side of Silverton, followed Cement Creek northward, and reached Gladstone, 7.5 miles.
