Bond from the Silverton Gladstone and Northerly Railroad Co. Number 23 issued in 1899. Signed by John D. Chipman, and Henry M. Soule. Size 16 by 16 inches. In Very Nice condition. Not cancelled. $500 1st mtg 6% gold bond. Vignette of steam train.17 coupons attached, no. 24-40. Chartered in 1899 by the Gold King Mining Co. to haul ore from the mines on Cement Creek to the Silverton smelters. Otto Mears and his associates had been unable to secure money to build a branch of the Silverton Northern Railroad to the mining area around the town of Gladstone. The line ran from the mainline of the Silverton Northern on the north side of Silverton, followed Cement Creek northward, and reached Gladstone, 7.5 miles. It was leased by the Silverton Northern in 1910 and absorbed by them in 1915. Dismantled between 1938 and 1942.
