Here we have one of the all- time classics. It is a Singer Sewing Machine. This example is called the " Memphis Sphinx " , because it has the the embossed sphinx, with the head of a Pharaoh, and a body of the wing lion ( Like king Tut, and his father Akhenaten ). The embossing is an elaborate gold, silver and blue, on a black back ground. Very impressive. It is also oak wood, and has the original oak wood cover, which is really rare. All machines made before 1900, have no letter prefix in the serial number. Serial number on this machine is : 12.289.343., 1893-1894. Overall great condition, with operation treadle, and side hand wheel. Needs a little furniture polish to make is glow. Left top handle pull, from drawer missing, otherwise a really nice piece of Early Americana.(*Note, local pickup advised, because shipping on this item, would be considerable !! ).( RH).
