Late 1800s. Framed Print. In the latter half of the 19th and the early 20 centuries, the American magazine Harper's Weekly published foreign and domestic news as well as fiction, humor, and documentary essays on a wide range of subjects. These were often accompanied by beautiful illustrations that brought the writing to life for the magazine's readers. This is a pair of illustrations, possibly a woodcut, depicting the work of excavating and maintaining a mine shaft. This copy is in virtually pristine condition with no visible damage to the paper or image. Professionally matted and framed in black anodized aluminum and glass, it is 17-1/2 x 14-1/2 inches with a matte opening of 12-9/16 x 9-5/16 inches. See photo for details.
