Two different Nevada Bank of San Francisco checks and four different Wells, Fargo & Co. checks, all signed by Adolph Sutro. 1887, 1890, 1892, 1892, 1893, and 1897. His signature on one of the 1892 checks has been pen cancelled. One check is for the Salvation Army. Sutro left his mark in Nevada history with the creation of the Sutro Tunnel on the Comstock. Unfortunately, his brilliant idea for draining the Comstock mines came too late to be of much help. He left Virginia City and moved to San Francisco, where he became mayor 1895-1897. He died in 1898.
