Fantastic collection of Leadville Hutch bottles! Must see in person; does not disappoint! As identified by Preble, the styles are as follows:
1.) S223, ISAAC HOUGHLAND Aqua with hazy appearance, dates c. 1889. Chips at base, which is unmarked. Scratches and pinprick bubbling at lip. Imperfections in glass on reverse. A cool piece!
2.) S224, KEENAN & GAFFNEY Aqua with nice clarity, c. 1897; has some residue that may polish off. Stretch marks down the shoulders & chips on the lip. Marked 166 on reverse near base, which is unmarked. Liquid or dirt staining inside the reverse shoulder & nicks and signs of wear at and around the base.
3.) S226, Aqua to almost light green in color, unlabeled Leadville bottle that resembles the first style of bottle used by F. Schmidt. Dates c. 1880-82. Has S mark on base and minimal signs of wear. Dirt staining and notch marks within the lip. Cool bubbling effect down the shoulders. This describer's favorite bottle in the grouping!
4.) S227, Purple J. MCDONALD c. 1912. Fantastic clarity with only a few smudge marks that may be polished out. Minimal wear on the unmarked base. Tiny, barely noticeable lip chip. Smudge on reverse near base that may be polished. Another standout in this group!
5.) S229, Aqua F. SCHMIDT with great clarity. Marked S on base, which has very minimal signs of wear. Slight imperfections in the glass around the lip & cool bubble drips within the body. Dates c.1883-89. Great condition for age!
6.) S230- A different variation of F. SCHMIDT. Has an unmarked base with signs of wear around its circumference. A light haze to its appearance, which this viewer finds pleasing to the eye. Marked 55. 02 on reverse heel. Twist mark and pinprick bubbling in the lip.
It is recommended you view in person this great collection of Leadville hutches!
