Published by Lea and Blanchard in 1850. Interesting source on the early gold discoveries in California. Buffum was a newspaper reporter and Mexican War volunteer soldier. He was discharged in 1849 and went searching for gold in California. In this book, he describes his experiences during the Gold Rush and the early history of California. 172 pages plus advertisements. This is a good copy in its original cloth binding. Spine ends corners chipped, top of joint cracked, front hinge loose, circular erasure mark on title page, otherwise good condition. 5 x 8 inches.
