Extremely rare certificate from Skidoo, located at the top of the Panamint Range, and within the Wild Rose mining district. We don't believe we have ever had a stock certificate from Skidoo. Not in Filer. The original 23 claims at Skidoo were discovered in 1906 and were soon controlled by E.A. (Bob) Montgomery. Montgomery also controlled the famous Montgomery Shoshone. He paid a handsome sum for these claims and they became the Skidoo Mines Company. He invested $550,000 to get the Skidoo mine to production (Lingenfelter). Matt Hoveck, his superintendant at the Montgomery Shoshone was immediately brought in to manage the Skidoo mine. A townsite at Skidoo was quickly laid out and became controlled by W.R. Wharton. Wharton was the business manager at the Skidoo mine. Wharton and Hoveck also became involved in the Skidoo Townsite & Mining Company. When the company was formed, Bob Montgomery was president, Matt Hoveck was vice president and Wharton was company secretary. The company sold townsites from $100 to $1000 each and also controlled 8 claims adjacent to the fantastic Skidoo mine. This is low certificate #11, issued for 2,000 shares to B.M. McGarity. W.R. Wharton signs as secretary and A.J. Davis as president. Two fold splits on the bottom folds archivally repaired on the verso. Uncancelled.
