This is a formal request to Judge William Hallam Tuck, written by Eleanor B. M. Hilleary, regarding her slave named George, as she is making sure she has enough clothing available for her servants [slaves]. Apparently, George was involved in a legal issue that the judge was overseeing. The Hilleary family owned several slaves in the town of Bladensburg in Prince George's County, Maryland. Slaves made up about 58% of the county, as there were several tobacco plantations located there. Judge Tuck (1809 - 1884) served in the Maryland Court of Appeals from 1851 to 1861. He served in the House of Delegates, Prince George's County, 1836-43, and was Speaker, House of Delegates, in 1837. He also was the Director of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, President of First National Bank of Annapolis, and Member of Board of Governors and Visitors of St. John's College.
