This is a receipt document, which appears to be in settlement of a lawsuit, showing the list of personal property of an individual, and the personal property includes one slave (Negro), along with a horse, cattle, goat, saddle, and other items. It is signed by the Constable, R. Cahale. The Cahale family lived in the Mercer, Boone, and Washington Counties of Kentucky. Caleb Cahale, believed to be the son of R. Cahale, lived in the town of Union, Boone County, Kentucky (located about 17 miles southwest of Cincinnati, Ohio), served as a soldier in the Confederate Army.
