Pawnee Bill was born Gordon William Lillie in Bloomington, IL on February 14, 1860 and died on February 3, 1942. He was an American performer known for his Wild West shows. When his family moved to Wellington, KS he started his love of the American West. He worked as the Pawnee interpreter for Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. This is how he came to be known as Pawnee Bill.

Bill married May Manning in 1886 when she was 17 years old. May was from a Pennsylvania Quaker family. In 1888 Bill and May launched their own Wild West show called Pawnee Bill’s Historical Wild West. May starred in the show as the "Champion Girl Horseback Shot of the West." The show went thru several incarnations and in 1908 Pawnee Bill partner with Buffalo Bill and started the Two Bills show. In 1936 a tragedy occurred when Bill and May were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Bill lost control of his car and May was killed. Consigned by The Cowboy Connection in Livingston, MT.
