Small wicker bottle wrapping remnant found on the SS Central America. Wicker wrapped bottles are a European tradition of encasing different types of bottles in a protective layer of woven reeds or leaves to prevent breakage and spoilage. We know the practice of covering bottles dates back to at least the 15th century. Measures approximately 6 x 3.50 inches. Includes loose wicker fibers.

Provenance: SS Central America Collection
