Nineteen round and eighteen rectangular hubs with society key symbols -- usually a shield shape with a loop at the top and a vertical rod. A hub or hobb is a "positive" image that is pressed into a piece of dead-soft steel to make a "negative" die. The die is then hardened so it can be used to strike a piece of metal and make a positive object. This particular style of hubs would have been made to create lapel pins, tie tacks, key fobs, or other 3D objects bearing the insignia of a specific organization. See photo for details of the two hub shapes and the variety of sizes and patterns.
