22 x 30" poster mounted on board. This version of the Society of California Pioneers poster is the third printing. The first done by Britton & Rey, probably in the 1850's. The second generation was done by Nagel of San Francisco, perhaps about 1862. Both Britton & Rey and Nagel printer insignia are found at the lower right, each in poor reproductive quality, as the poster in turn was again reproduced by the Nahl Bros., this time shown in bold at the lower left corner, perhaps printed in the early 1870's. The Society appears to have kept the unused blank posters around for decades, as evidenced by the 1914 date of use here. As a third generation print, the details from the original are not as sharp. It should also be noted that the last of the Nahls, Paul, was noted as an engraver on p1250 of the 1912 SF Directory, but he is not listed as a separate lithographer in the business section.

The certificate is issued to Harry K. Webb as a descendant for Christopher C. Webb. CC Webb is only mentioned by Bancroft as a prominent Republican in San Francisco the 1850's. Mackie Collection.
