Trust certificate no. 518, issued for 25 shares to WJ Hesthal in 1916. Signed by the secretary and trust officer. Not cancelled. The company was formed in 1912 to mine the Red Slide deposit of magnesite in the Cedars. Magnesite was important for steel making and shortages during WWI made the high cost of mining here worthwhile. The Sonoma Magnesite Tramway, 11 miles long was built along East Austin Creek to connect the mine to Cazadero. Production ended in 1920, when magnesite again became available from less expensive sources.
