The Altar District of Sonora, Mexico was noted for its rich placer deposits and gold ledges before the Spaniards ever settled the region (Altar District's Golden Lure, Robert P. Ezzo, 1901). Printed by Hatch Lithographic, New York. Nice vignette of a group of miners working underground. The company was granted 5 million acres of mineral lands near Guaymas to develop beds and fields of bituminous coal. The company succeeded the Sonora Anthracite & Development Company. In 1884, shareholders were made an offer to exchange their shares for shares in the Sonora Mining Company. Some wear at edges but otherwise VF. Uncanceled.
