Very early and rare territorial stock. "Mining Works, Clear Creek Co." (printed at bottom center). Inc. in New York. No.54, issued for 30 shares to Charles Kennedy in May 1865. Signed by president O. Thornos and treasurer Casbach. Not cancelled. Black border and print. Three fabulous mining vignettes including the Goddess of Gold (at left). Printed by Major & Knapp, NY. Numerous folds, toning. According to Hollister, "The South Clear Creek Gold and Silver Mining Company are located a little way above Spanish Bar on the north side of the creek and where the Lincoln Lode is supposed to cross and become the Oro. An adit has been run in about on the creek level 135 feet intersecting a shaft 65 feet deep; ore vein from eight to ten inches in width throughout the adit, 50 to 60 tons of ore out. They have 900 feet of water power, substantial dam, flume-race 550 feet long giving fifteen feet fall, center-vent turbine wheel, 100-horse. Stone mill building on the lode 50 by 60, twenty stamps, two Freiberg pans, and Crosby & Thompson desulphurizer." [Hollister p235-236]
