Lot of 2 different. 1) Buckeye Mining and Tunneling Co. of Colorado. No. 4596, issued for 100 shares to H Armstrong in 1879. Signed by president AM Cassidy and secretary White. Not cancelled. Black border, black and red print, vignette with Colorado state seal. Pinholes, folds creases. Owned the Silver Cliff mine with assays $20-75/ton. Large masses of ceragyrite (75% silver chloride) of this ore were mined near the surface works which yielded 30-50 oz/ton. Alex M. Cassidy lived in Colorado for some time before becoming president of this company. In 1862, he purchased oil claims at Oil Springs, Fremont County from Gabriel Bowen. Cassidy sunk six wells that were moderately profitable. This is the boom period for the Silver Cliff Mining District. [Ref: Dallas, p174-177; Balch p.1153; Eckel, p.94; Stone, 1918, p.287] 2) The Creede United Mines Company. No. 685, issued for 100 shares to Ferdinand Langbein in 1905. Signed by the vice president and secretary. Not cancelled. Very attractive design with full background Nature vignette and gold seal. "Mines Located at Creede, Colo." printed under title.
