Lot of 4. Three frank (Free) passes issued for 1915, 1916, and 1917, all to WW Fulmer, general purchasing agent for Wells Fargo. Red or blue with vignette of bald eagle. Printed on cardstock. Plus a business card sized typed message saying 1917 annual franks are extended. The Southern Express Company was founded in 1861 as the southern counterpart to Adams Express, taking over routes and business across the Confederacy during the Civil War. Headquartered in Atlanta, it provided express transport of parcels, freight, and funds throughout the South, becoming the region's primary carrier during wartime and Reconstruction. After decades of service, it was eventually consolidated into the American Railway Express Company in 1918, along with other major express firms.
