Two great California history signatures on one pass. An 1891 pass for GW Percy on account of Leland Stanford! Good for travel between San Francisco and Mayfield. Signed by A.C. Barrett. On the reverse, it is handwritten that the pass is extended to Sept. 30th. This is signed by Leland Stanford. Unfortunately, whomever once put this pass in an album did not realize the significance of that signature. By removing it from an album, there has been damage to the signature. There was also damage to Percy's signature endorsement. Please see photo. G.W. Percy was a well-known architect who designed many of San Francisco's iconic buildings including: the coliseum on Strawberry Hill in Golden Gate Park (and other park buildings), the Academy of Sciences building (on Market Street), the Wells Fargo block on Mission Street, the Hobart Estate building, the Folger estate building, the Edison electric building, the State Insane Asylum (in Stockton), and more. Leland Stanford was a very successful railroad magnate, as well as serving as both the governor (1860s) and a U.S. Senator from California. (Prag Collection)
